Rented a house in Corolla the 4th week of August this year. I know traffic is supposed to be really bad getting to and from Corolla and the busier areas to the south. For the most part, our group is pretty content with a chill beach week and hanging around in Corolla. But we do have kids and want to do some tourist things at least one of the days we're there.

What's the best day or time of day to try to drive south and get back at that time of year? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much!
