hi all, i thought about posting this in my town's subreddit but i don't want to start local drama. my partner has been working in the kitchen at a local sushi bar for the past year. i often will drop them off at work and come in to sit at the bar and have a beer or some food.

recently one of the bartenders was having a lot of drama with his girlfriend, and she would come in and sit at the bar. he would overserve her and she would get sloppy drunk and start screaming at him. due to this, they fired him and imposed a rule that staff's partners cannot sit at the bar, including me.

however, my partner doesn't work behind the bar, they work in the kitchen. i am autistic and don't get a lot of social time so i often will talk to and befriend the bartenders but i always remain respectful and tell them to prioritize other customers over me.

i have been told that not only am i not allowed to sit at the bar, i can't sit at the tables in the bar section at all. their solution is to seat me at the sushi bar much closer to where my partner is working.

does this make any sense? i understand that it's legal for them to determine where i sit, but what is y'all's experience with these kinds of rules?

eta: thanks everyone for the responses, i posted to gain insight & not necessarily to complain. i didn't know this was a common rule in bars but i understand the reasons. it is unfortunate because i love a good sapporo & a chat
