I’m curious to know if anyone else has noticed issues with cleanliness in restaurants in Barcelona. I’m particularly referring to the number of establishments selling food that lack soap or similar supplies in their bathrooms. Sometimes the dispenser is empty and hasn’t been refilled, other times, it looks like none was ever provided, as if it’s not considered necessary.
Obviously, higher-end places are more likely to take care of this, but I’ve even seen chefs walk out of the bathroom without washing their hands. Maybe I notice this more because in Ireland we’re quite strict about hygiene, and very few people would neglect to wash their hands when working with food. However, it seems to be a common occurrence in Barcelona, especially in the college where I worked, young people rarely stopped at the sink.
