Verizon/CBE Group Debt Collections Dispute
I had internet through Verizon, and when I canceled, I had to send the equipment back by 12/3. I did it last minute on 11/29. Note: I still have the receipt from UPS showing that I returned it on 11/29.
I then received an email saying I owed $300 because I didn’t return it. I waited because assumed they hadn’t received it but I know they would, and then on 1/9 I received an email saying they had received my equipment and that I would be refunded the $300. I never worried about it after that.
CBE Group contacted me in February. I called and explained the situation, and she said they would relay it back to Verizon. I never heard from them again. Obviously I should have followed up.
Today, my credit score was impacted because I was sent to collections over it. I looked back through everything, and here’s the situation: I never paid the $300 when they requested it, but Verizon also never sent me the $300 like they said they did, so technically we are even?
I wasn’t worried because I checked my bank account, and the last payment statement I have shows me making my final payment to them. I disputed it through TransUnion and CBE Group.
I know it’s just a hurry up and wait situation at this point, but I’m panicking. I’m 25, have no debt to my name, and had a very high credit score prior to this.
