Finding a job in New York as a french

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out to this group because I’m looking for advice/help/external opinions.

My boyfriend is American and lives in New York, so I’d really like to find a job there to join him, but I honestly have no idea where to start or what options are realistic.

I graduated from business school and currently work as an HR consultant for a consulting firm (but they don’t have offices in the US).

Right now, I see 3 possible options:
• The J-1 trainee visa: apparently accessible, but the salaries are low, the status is basically “intern/trainee” even though I have 3 years of experience, and the duration is short (18 months max).
• The L-1 transfer visa: but that would mean finding a new company in France first and then hoping they transfer me to the US later on, which seems long and far from guaranteed.
• Finding a fully remote job: difficult to find, time zone differences can be an issue, and it doesn’t seem like the most sustainable long-term solution.

We’re not married, so I don’t have a Green Card. But from what I’ve read, even with a Green Card, it can still be difficult to find a job in the US without prior US experience.

Since I’m not particularly passionate about my current job either, I’m also open to changing career paths: are there any fields or jobs that make it easier to relocate to the US?

Basically, I’d really appreciate any advice, feedback, or ideas that could help point me in the right direction. Thank you!!
