Is reselling worth it?
Hey just asking here is reselling worth it?
I started out reselling mostly because I have a passion for brand name purses and finding good deals and have gotten decently good at authenticating them. So I do this more as a passion project rather than a side hustle.
However, recently I've been thinking about quitting due to a lot of challenges I have faced.
- Account bans
I resell on multiple platforms (FB marketplace, ebay, poshmark, depop) and I have had my account banned due to being accusesd of selling countefeit items. multiple times on fb marketplace (of which i had to find loopholes to get it back), once on depop (where i had to speak to someone to get it resolved but the days were long...), and now a temp ban on ebay where random items are being marked as countefeit and I might need to send an email to ebay with hopefully an online authentication certificate to prove item is in fact authentic before they ban my account for good. I just got off a call on them and they told me the ban will not be lifted since I do not have a recipet of purchase so I guess i'll have to take hte 3 day ban.
- Dealing with people
This applies mostly to fb marketplace but at this rate 80% of ppl who say they will show do not show up. I have people who ask a bucnh of questions and then never buy. I had one person that tried on 3 purses and then didnt buy any. Another that say they were her, and i then i left hte house and then she woudlnt tell me where in the meetup location or hte new one adn then had me spend 30 min looking for her before her ghosting. I had another that kept saying she was coming but kept making excuses.
- Inconsistnat demand
Inconsistant demand (mostly fb marketpalce) . I do not know why but my no show rates have skyrocketed and perhaps due to algorithm change or something i do not know but less saves overall, more clicks and likes, and items that used to have sold within a week or even days sit there unsold or lowballed.
- . Interestign sourcing
A lot of my sourced items (not all I've gotten better) are not up to standard. some items I get at low prices are damaged and countefeit and its always a pain clearing that up.
So overall its like a huge hassle. I'm moving away from fb marketplace but the biggest issue out of em all is the account bans. constantly being flagged as countefeiit even with good reviews and spending a lot of time making sure item is authentic only for the system to think it is not authentic.
Should i quit reselling? Or are there better ways to mitigate these issues? Asking in this passionate community of resllers.
