Recently, my father passed away, and he was the legal guardian for my younger sister (23 years old). She holds a savings account in a bank that was opened as an under guardian of my father because she was not of legal age at that time. Now that he has passed away, my mother will be the legal guardian for my sister. But, the bank person tells that to prove that she is the legal guardian, the bank needs a Court-Appointed guardian certificate, or they won't be able to remove my father's name from the account.

According to the Hindu Act, I assume the mother becomes the legal guardian of a mentally disabled child, who is, of course, her own child. But I do not understand why the bank needs a certificate as proof for the mother?
