66 Year old stroke victim won’t stop smoking- refuses to take medicine

Hello everyone,

My mother 66, suffered a stroke in the fall of 2025. Her motor skills were not affected but she is definitely not of the same mental capacity. She has been smoking since the stroke and recently the family has put our feet down and refused to purchase cigarettes and enable it. Her response to this was to refuse taking her medication. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Is it better to smoke on these medications (eloquis for one) than to not smoke and not take medication?
