Every possible option for addition into the 1998 GT1 category.

Every possible option for addition into the 1998 GT1 category.

The category in-game is not named 1998 but I've restricted this post to 1998 because of the fact that the 911 GT1 is the 1998 model, significantly developed from the 1997 model of the previous year. And 1999 was the death of the official GT1 category, as these cars had turned into basically expensive prototypes, which means no new cars were homologated past this point that I know of. So 1998 it is.

The entries here will be taken from all of the races i could find running GT1 cars in this year, first with the obvious ones:

Toyota GT-ONE

https://preview.redd.it/rfyotaq495kh1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=f612e98260145f207f891ffd8ccfb839a4b6d5fe

By all accounts a prototype in all but name, this car entered in the GT1 category at the 24 Hours of Le mans in 1998, where one of the entries finished a respectable 9th. The other two however DNF'd along the way. It made a return in 1999 now in the GTP category where one car finished 2nd, but two of them again DNF'd.

Panoz Esperante GTR-1

https://preview.redd.it/a7pa22w0a5kh1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=2360fdc369e8f41a6ccfe6b137b91434b8e8f3fc

Debuted in 1997, this car failed to finish any entries in Le Mans in 1997, but had one car finish at 7th in 1998. Besides Le Mans it raced in many other races throughout these two years such the 24 hrs of Daytona etc.

Besides these two there were no other GT1 cars besides the ones in the game which took part in the 24 Hour of Le Mans in 1998. However, there were a few other cars which partook in other GT championships this year, the main one being the British GT Championship:

Porsche 911 GT1 and GT1 Evo

https://preview.redd.it/mhglf1nsb5kh1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=2b504c8442a1cca2516a98ed40ff0e43b2fa21f3

https://preview.redd.it/c715vwrfb5kh1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=31d18bde6ae66360e6f6a17025266364bad919dc

The older brothers to the 911 GT1-98 model, this older model was developed in 1996 and the Evo version in 1997. Both versions seem to have been present in 1998 in the British GT Championship as well as the 24 Hours of Daytona, 4 Hours of Sebring and a few other US races during this year. Two of these cars were signed up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year but neither showed up.

Lister Storm GTL

https://preview.redd.it/gbuj6izud5kh1.png?width=440&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3fcb09f32ca425da273842c4ca6dcaa1093bdb5

The Lister Storm had a lot of issues in Le Mans in 1997, and while signed up did not partake in 1998. Where it did however race in 1998 was the British GT championship where it proved rather competitive in contexts where it did not have to run for a full 24 hour race, scoring quite a few victories in 1998 and actually winning the season in 1999.

Harrier GT1-98

https://preview.redd.it/k76hcaqvf5kh1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=315d1a555c039ccd3fa0228550c90d63de1c37f6

A further development of the Harrier GT car which had raced in previous years of the British GT Championship, this car managed to run for about half the season with the highest finish of 5th place. The other half it either DNF'd or failed to start altogether.

Quaife R4 GTS

https://preview.redd.it/o7q5n80hg5kh1.png?width=730&format=png&auto=webp&s=7e8e2dc75e23ef4ad32e6f31a0b80e101f9d2d3e

An in-house built GT1 car by Quaife with one single road-going version (a true homologation special) this car took part in the British GT Championship in 1998, though finishing at it's highest in 7th place and DNF'ing about half of the races it attended.

RGS Mirage GT1

https://preview.redd.it/r623hnx2h5kh1.png?width=547&format=png&auto=webp&s=fea2517af2debf9db2f22959914d6342d53a4d6e

Built by RGS for the 1997 British GT Championship, this car technically wasn't even homologated as it didn't have a road-going variant, but it was allowed to be raced anyway. It failed to score even a single result in 1997, but did manage to finish some races in the 1998 championship, with a highest position of 8th.

TVR Speed 12 GTS

https://preview.redd.it/vayvk1w8i5kh1.png?width=604&format=png&auto=webp&s=d3044c20997150f53101e097e6a9d22a221ebc31

Raced a few races in the 1998 British GT Championship, finishing 4th as it's best result.

And last, honorable mentions of cars which did not manage to finish a single race.

Bitter (Lotus Elise) GT1

https://preview.redd.it/fize5d8xe5kh1.png?width=730&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ef2fca74ad3abbe8a9b7d3c875a8bc5518769e1

A privateer-built version of the not-so-impressive Lotus Elise GT1, this car was entered into the FIA GT championship in 1998. It however did not manage to score a single position, DNF'ing on the first round, not starting on the second and not showing up for the rest of the season. Not the most impressive showing.

Venturi 600 SLM.

https://preview.redd.it/4lz3f4sni5kh1.png?width=1536&format=png&auto=webp&s=cbb05f7daac78a45844fe19fd07907bcea5c1e5e

A well outdated car by this point, it entered the British GT Championship in 1998, but failed to score a single result.

Jaguar XJ220-C

https://preview.redd.it/135okb5yj5kh1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=2139d7888ef20702d1ff08a028770b8a8e88ca73

Also a significantly outdated car by 1998, it entered into one round of the British GT Championship in 1998 where it failed to finish.

Harrier LR9

https://preview.redd.it/4vssy4zck5kh1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=b39f77ec5b74331c714d2da41c6030894a6d56c3

An older Harrier design, it entered a few races in the British GT in 1998 but did not finish a single race.

Now some of you might correctly point out that I have skipped cars which raced in US and Canada-based races in 1998. These cars include things such as the Ford Mustang Cobra GT, Chevrolet Corvette and Camaro, and various other assortment of old GTS and GTO-style cars. While these did indeed race under the GT1 category in races such as the 24 Hours of Daytona and the Canada G.T. Challenge Cup against cars such as the Porsche 911 and Panoz GTR-1, they weren't built with FIA GT1 regulations in mind so I am skipping them.

A list of all the "missing" cars in-game from the 2005 endurance series.

With the recent addition of Historical Endurance Pack part 2 the 2005 LMP and especially GT categories got properly fleshed out, but there's still a few cars which exist and could be considered for addition in a future pack, that ran in either the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Le Mans Endurance Series, or the American Le Mans Series.

(I will be shortening "24 Hours of Le Mans" to 24LM so I don't have to type it out constantly)

LMP1

Dome S101

https://preview.redd.it/t95g6877jzgh1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=825aaddfc43c19e364707c4d76579d4f44248a1b

Ran in the 24LM and LMES in 2005.

DBA 03S

Ran in two races in LMES 2005, where it DNF'd one and finished 18th in the other. It was signed up for 24LM but did not show up. It did win the 6 Hours of Vallelunga the same year - by virtue of being the only LMP1 to actually race in it.

Courage C60

https://preview.redd.it/ucls69uqpzgh1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=23257f41717ecabfedfc3d6a7e88e523e6116eb6

Ran in 24LM and LMES 2005.

Debuted in the LMP2 category in 2005 in the 24LM, then also ran in the LMES.

WR LMP2

https://preview.redd.it/wdeey7remzgh1.png?width=486&format=png&auto=webp&s=f704488ed3fff59dd43bbaf0428313582d15bce5

Ran in the 24LM in 2005, where it failed to finish.

MG EX264

https://preview.redd.it/f64nu2ewmzgh1.png?width=547&format=png&auto=webp&s=a666b22425df3712d2d7590ffb34f5d3a2d7ff84

Debuted at 2005 LMES and also ran in LM24

Courage C65

https://preview.redd.it/ohbgm5m5nzgh1.png?width=1800&format=png&auto=webp&s=cfa30325f4722a2f66841c2d254f9b9cbb97bbd9

The most popular LMP2 of this era, several teams ran them in 24LM, LMES and ALMS 2005.

Lucchini LMP2-04

https://preview.redd.it/1pxjobvnnzgh1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=9a3c19cab45eb84bb8f9e57f31537d2fa6e30d88

Ran in 2 races in the LMES where it DNF'd in both of them, and failed to show up to 24LM despite being signed up. In fact the only race it ever seems to have completed from start to finish was 1000km of Spa in 2004, with it either DNF'ing or just not showing up to any other race between 2004 and 2006.

Tampolli SR2 RTA-2001

https://preview.redd.it/jy2dnaj5rzgh1.png?width=753&format=png&auto=webp&s=762d9c1127a32a31a8d77f6697acb8b10c0ec907

Ran in LMES 2005, though it only managed to finish one single race.

Lucchini SR2001

https://preview.redd.it/uc0nggcdrzgh1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=5a226fe740a3514ff3f308b757a60a59165061ea

Ran in ALMS 2005.

Lola B05/40

https://preview.redd.it/nku3xldtuzgh1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=1dfc7a1cd08472700a707ad28509787347c59a46

Ran in 24LM, LMES and ALMS in 2005.

GT1

Chevrolet Corvette C6 .R Z06

https://preview.redd.it/qm9wsjoghzgh1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=87a2dc9694567fac7b919a855be57742619ec49b

Although the C5-R remained in use in the FIA GT championship, the C6.R had already replaced it in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2005. Several of them also ran in 2005 ALMS alongside the C5.

Porsche 996 Turbo

https://preview.redd.it/v7iv4ddsrzgh1.png?width=1140&format=png&auto=webp&s=c05d8954c2953ca331a224a1fba36d8fd99575ee

While official Porsche factory efforts had ceased running in the GT1 category after 2003, there were private entrants running this car in the GT1 category during the LMES, 24 Hours of Nürbürgring and Spanish GT in 2005.

Ferrari 575M GTC

https://preview.redd.it/8w3f73jvvzgh1.png?width=588&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b3fa11f1a529f59d6483a5586f079c2c092f0a0

Ran alongside the 550M in LM24, Italian GT and LMES. Tecnically the legally distinct Ferrari which is in-game is principally based on the 550M - not that there's significant differences between the two so this is mainly here just because I think it's a dope looking car.

Honorable mentions for cars that either ran single races or which were signed up but did not race in 2005, without pictures because I hit the limit:

Nasamax DM139 LMP1 - Ran in 24LM and LMES in 2004, signed up for 24LM in 2005 but did not arrive.

Lola B2K/10 LMP1 - Ran in 24LM and LMES from 2001 to 2004, signed up for 24LM 2005 but did not show up.

Pilbeam MP91 LMP2 - This car did run in 2005 but only in the 1000km of Spa.

Promec PJ119 LMP2 - This car ran in the 1000km of Monza in 2005 where it failed to finish.
