Book Recommendation like PHM pls

Book Recommendation like PHM pls

So I recently got back into reading and honestly it’s been such a ride. I’ve finished Project Hail Mary, The Martian, Mickey 7, and Antimatter Blues — and I am absolutely hooked on this genre now.

Here’s the thing: I thought these kinds of books were going to be super hard to read. Dense, technical, intimidating. Turns out the book I read years ago was just the difficult one lol. PHM especially was a total game-changer for me — it pulled me right back in and now I can’t stop.

What I love about these books:
• A lone protagonist figuring things out under pressure
• Science that feels real but isn’t overwhelming
• Humor mixed with genuine stakes
• A satisfying, complete story

Here’s my one condition: No series. No Book 1 of anything. I want a complete story in a single volume — one book, one story, done.

What are your go-to standalones that scratch the same itch? Would love to hear what worked for you.
