I am genuinely starting to think that selling anything on the internet is a form of self harm

I have this ancient laptop sitting in my closet for like three years and it is honestly a miracle it even turns on. It has a massive crack across the corner of the lid and the battery lasts maybe twenty minutes if you are lucky but the screen works and it is fine for basic web browsing or typing. I listed it for twenty bucks on Marketplace just because I wanted it gone and thought maybe some student or a kid could use it for homework. I specifically wrote in the description that it is sold as is and it does not come with a charger because I lost mine during my last move. Pretty simple right. Wrong.

I get a message from this woman who starts off by asking if the price is negotiable. Twenty dollars. I told her no because that is basically the price of a decent sandwich these days. Then she sends me this long paragraph saying she will take it off my hands tomorrow but only if I fulfill a few conditions. She tells me that since she has to drive fifteen minutes to pick it up I should be a decent human being and buy a replacement charger for her so she can test it at her house. I checked online and a new power cord for this model is literally twenty five dollars. So she basically wants me to pay five dollars to give her my laptop for free.

It gets better though. She then asks if I can install a licensed version of Photoshop on it because her daughter wants to be a graphic designer. I told her that first of all Photoshop costs a monthly subscription and second of all this laptop would probably explode if I tried to run anything heavier than a calculator app. She called me unhelpful and said I am ruining a young girls dream over a few dollars. The audacity is actually impressive at this point. She actually suggested that I should pay for the first year of the software since the laptop is damaged and it is the least I could do for the inconvenience of her driving to my apartment complex.

I am just staring at my phone screen wondering how people like this survive in the real world without getting laughed at daily. I told her to go buy a brand new Macbook if she wants premium service and she blocked me after calling me a spoiled brat. I think I am just going to take the laptop to a recycling center tomorrow because my mental health cannot handle another interaction like this. I swear some people think that just because you are a student you are also a free tech support and a charity foundation.

I found a half eaten bag of chips in my backpack while looking for my keys and honestly that was the highlight of my entire afternoon.
