How bad did I mess up by over sizing my foundation? What are my options for properly flashing to prevent water?
I built a 12'x16' foundation for a new 12'x14' metal shed. I over sized it thinking I could have wiggle room for the shed alignment and I put 2ft extra for outdoor 100 gallon storage totes. However, once the foundation was built I started planning the next moves for building the actual shed and the first thing I thought of was....water. Now I'm trying to figure out the best layout to try and prevent water from getting in.
Foundation Dimensions: 12' W x 16' L
Shed Dimensions: 138.3" W x 159.5" L
- If I center the shed entirely, I won't have room for the storage totes I had planned for, but flashing may be easier.
- If I sit it flush on the front and right edge, that would help prevent water in at least 50% of the sides, but would leave me to flash 5-6" in the back and deal with the 2' side still.
- I'm leaning towards sitting it flush on the right side, centering on front/back and then cutting a 0.5" gap down the plywood on the left side. This way the shed can sit flush to the edge on the left/right and water won't pool between the totes and the shed. Then I could do 3" or so flashing on front/back.
Any other options or thoughts?
