How breakable are Zalto glasses really?
Hello wine friends! Question for Zalto glass owners. I'm considering buying a pair of them for my boyfriend as a gift. He's a real wine lover (takes classes, knows all the science behind everything, reads the wine menu like a dissertation) and I want to find a good set of proper crystal glasses for him. Zalto keeps coming up as a top option, but I'm also reading a lot of reviews that say they are extremely easy to break if you hand wash them. I know Zalto recommends putting them in the dishwasher, but he doesn't have one. I'm just trying to get a sense of how fragile they truly are (I, compared to him, know very little about anything wine related). If you're someone who very carefully washes your good glassware, puts it away immediately, doesn't bang it around while drinking out of it, etc. will they be fine? Or are these actually glasses that no matter how careful you are, they're bound to break with average use? I've seen a few other threads that offered alternatives that aren't as fragile which I have looked at, but shape and style is extremely important to him and the Zalto ones are the closest match to his ideal glass that I've found, so I'm prioritizing figuring out if these are worth it.
I realize any good wine glass is bound to break if you're not mindful with it given they're so thin, I just want to know if this is a terrible idea for someone who can only hand wash, even if he does so very carefully. Thanks everyone!
