Foolproof method to estimate my needs?
Hello,
I want to upgrade my actual Raspi (3 model B) to an home server. Today the raspbberry acts as a network-wide adblocker (Thanks to pi-hole) and a VPN provider to get an access to my network when I'm out of my house. But i want to do more in the future (Home assistant container, and a minecraft and/or satisfactory server to name the primary uses)
For the upgrade, I want to estimate my needs in computational power, and RAM.
You're just summin' the informations you find about your projects? You got a good estimation only because experience?
Any method you use to guess what do you need in spare parts is appreciated; I'm planning to buy a second hand server from brands/types often named in this reddit (Beelink, NUC or minis forum), and i want to be sure it wont underperform.
I've checked the wiki and searched a bit but usually people give a straight answer without explaining how to get this result.
Thank you for your answers :)
P.S It's too early to talk about a budget for me, but thanks to second hand devices, I hope I'll stay below the 250€ bar.
EDIT: Thank you all for your answers, instead of tailoring tight for my needs, I'll look for a good second-hand, upgradable base, the beefiest I can take on my budget. I'm not sure about how i'll admin my machine, but i'll read the topics in this subreddit :)
