
This article gives the latest numbers tallied of the Monarch butterflies overwintering in California. Those numbers are *drastically* down, and the causes listed are pesticide use, loss of winter habitat, ... the usual suspects. What surprised me was the information that milkweed plants bought from nurseries, by well-meaning gardeners, tested positive for pesticides in their leaves even before gardeners bought them! For those of us who refuse to use pesticides/insecticides of any kind, this was a shock!!
