What can I do about extremely loud property renovations impacting sleep?
My landlord gave notice that they would be completing necessary repairs/renovations to the property and we should keep our curtains drawn for privacy and expect some noise.
Unfortunately for me, I work the night shift and I need to sleep during the days. I've been able to deal with most of the noise by closing my windows and using my AC at full blast to drown out the noise. However they recently started what sounds like jack hammering to remove rock under my building. The noise is impossible to block out and it permeates throughout my entire apartment, of course making it impossible to sleep. They usually work from around 8am - 5pm, Mondays - Fridays, with the worst of the jack hammering happening around 12pm - 4pm or so.
I have no idea how long this is going to last and I don't want to keep living like this if I don't have to. I found this paragraph in the Residential Tenancies Act and wanted to know if it could apply to this situation and if it does, what kind of action could I take?
Landlord not to interfere with reasonable enjoyment
22 A landlord shall not at any time during a tenant’s occupancy of a rental unit and before the day on which an order evicting the tenant is executed substantially interfere with the reasonable enjoyment of the rental unit or the residential complex in which it is located for all usual purposes by a tenant or members of his or her household. 2006, c. 17, s. 22.
Besides moving or sleeping at a friends house, is there anything I can do about this?
