Public Transportation

I just had a full blown argument with my more conservative coworkers about public transportation. And they looked at me like a wanted to legalize murder. My only point was basically, that better public transportation would be a net positive for society, even if the cost was great. They argued that most Americans want cars and would rather use cars over trains or busses majority of the time because our cities are not built around public transportation and because public transportation is not reliable. And that people should be saving for cars so they wouldn’t need public transportation. Which I think is a dumb argument because plenty of other countries make it work, even with a large car population. Idk where I was going with this but they legitimately got so heated about it telling me I know nothing about city planning (like that means I can’t have an opinion on something lol). They couldn’t fathom that I wouldn’t want to use car.

Out of every argument we’ve had (inflation, trans rights, immigration, etc) this was the one they got the most mad about for some reason lmao. I just needed to vent because I was astonished

They were legitimately less mad arguing about abortion than this. Maybe I just struck a nerve. Im no longer talking about trains to conservatives
