Canon macro EF 100mm 1:2.8 versus Sigma 180mm 1:3.5 APO macro DG HSM

I have both and take images of everything from small jewellery items to larger consumer electronics products. I was wondering how folks feel which is the better all round lens or has each lens simply niche areas where it will excel with particular product types. I mainly shoot using flash heads and soft boxes.

Skin cancer detection and identification with photos and AI search engines

Anyone tried this and if so, how did you get on? I asked as I've had scin cancer removed twice now inside a a few years and I understand it's just a fact of life that it will happen repeatedly now as I age as i am predisposed to it. I now go to a dermatologist once a year for s check and take the necessary precautions to limit sun exposure as much as possible. As I have macro lenses and a high resolution camera I can get very high resolution images of my scin and my thinking is to use an AI tool to give me an early warning of any changes to my skin which I can mention to my dermatologist upon my next visit. Over time by comparing old and new images, any changes will also become apparent if AI cannot do it for me. But just curious if anyone is using AI for this?

Best watch/band, constant pulse monitoring with high/low alarm and monitors systolic and diastolic

I need one of these for a friend who has had a cardiac ablation a month ago and her pulse is swinging wildly from the 30s to over 100. She has got back to her cardiologist to see how he wants to proceed, but in the interim she need some device with an alarm, when her pulse goes outside acceptable limits.

Aktiia / Hilo band problems syncing

I had this band for coming on two years now so well used to the (short-term) sync problems you get from time, but this is different…

My phone has not read any of the usual data like blood pressure or even number of steps walked per day, for about 4 days.

When I sync. the phone with the band, the percentage does increase progressively as before, but then no data points are displayed.

I have tried all the usual things like repairing the Bluetooth connection and resetting the phone, to no avail.

However, this morning I was able to get a blood pressure reading from the arm cuff no problem. This data point was even in the monthly report and then a gap of about four days to the previous readings.

I’m aware that they have a subscription now, but under ‘Profile‘ and then ‘Subscriptions’, it says I have no active membership, but “as an early adopter, you already have full access to all the features”.

Any ideas anyone?

Beetroot and massive blood pressure drop!

Been on 75mg of Losartan daily with 50mg at 10am and 25mg at 2pm.

The last 5 days I have started having a beetroot drink (1/2 small cooked beetroot, honey, lemon and ginger blended with water) for breakfast. My blood pressure dropped quite a lot over a few days and now it has started going below 90/60 at times. I'd be interested if others have had such a pronounced effect, when they started taking beetroot on a daily basis and if so how they approached it. I have included two plots of my blood pressure and the data from recent days. Reading left to right the first set of blood pressure results are the average of the other three columns of data. I always take three blood pressure readings and then use the average to plot the data. Note, that I have also lost 3kg in three weeks, from 73kg to 70kg, so this will have assisted the blood pressure drop.

@ 21:00, 17/07/26, I have just taken a reading of my blood pressure and I got 82/57/93 (S/D/P) and that is the average of three readings. I checked on a second meter and got 83/57/90. I am starting to get a bit worried as it is now below 90/60 and when I go to sleep it drops even further.... I've gone for some Gouda cheese and TUC biscuits which are quite salty, which I never have normally. The salt will draw more water into the blood stream which should push the blood pressure up!

Lens Mould

Was taking some images of a lens I planned to sell and found what looks like a nasty surprise inside the lens. Looks like mould on the inner lens wall, or perhaps there is a spider living in there?

High blood pressure episode and losartan increased from 50mg to 75mg by cardiologist and short-term stress causing blood pressure to go out of control

I had a period of high stress, and it caused my blood pressure to rise to 170/100, and I took myself to A&E. They gave me something to reduce in short term (3 days) while I waited to see the cardiologist. By chance, the cardiologist saw me at A&E for 1 minute and he advised them to fit an ambulatory blood pressure monitor, so I had baseline data for 72 hours when I attended the appointment with the cardiologist, 3 days later.

Further to reviewing the data from the ambulatory blood pressure monitor, the cardiologist increase of my medication from 50mg to 75mg of losartan.

The cardiologist asked me to do a measurement in the morning and evening.

I was supposed to go back to him after 2 weeks, but I had to cancel the appointment, and I have been recording my blood pressure for 4 weeks now and I expect to do it for another 2 or 3 weeks before I see him again.

As a matter of routine, I use BOTH a Hilo and a traditional blood meter with arm strap.

The Hilo is useful as it automatically tracks 24/7, you get average daily, weekly, and monthly data.

I also measure manually with my traditional blood pressure meter between 4 and 8 times a day and each time three times taking the average. I will continue to do this until I see the cardiologist, but once I see him if he does not change my medication dose.

What is very annoying is that my blood pressure had been runing below 120/80 consistently when I was on 50mg of losartan and one stressful period has caused the blood pressure to go out of control and even on the highter dose of 75mg it is still not gone down to where it was before and the short term (5 weeks) source of stress has passed.

Anyone else had an experience like this?
