Betta Lethargy

I’ve had this half moon betta fish for about three months now, and he’s always been vibrant in color and full of energy. Anyways, in the last four days, I’ve noticed a sharp decline in his color vibrancy and his energy levels. His fins are becoming less full, and his swimming has slowed down. He likes to bury himself into the crevices of rocks and plants and he seems tired. I don’t know what’s wrong with him, considering I’ve tested the water and the nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia are all 0. The water is ~79 degrees Fahrenheit, and he only has one other tank buddy (a teeny tiny guppy) in the whole 8.5 gallon planted tank.

Even though he lays on the bottom for most of the day, he still has bursts of energy to swim to the top and gulp some air or eat some food, and he’ll even come out of his hiding spot when he sees me come near the tank.

I know fish are fragile, but I’m hoping he gets better and healthy again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is my first time housing a betta.
