Why are Boomers incapable of giving gifts without constantly checking up on how you use it?
I want to preface by saying I hate gift culture. Once we grow out of the need of financial support from our parents (18+) I wish it would just stop. We all have jobs and can buy what we want whenever we want (obviously, a generality.)
However, thinking back over my entire millennial adult life, I have been gifted unsolicited presents from Boomers regularly. Although nice, and occasionally even helpful, I wish it would just stop. Following receipt of said gift, my Boomer friends/relatives/neighbors constantly keep tabs on the gift, and make sure I know how I am or am not allowed to use said gift, almost always with a haughty glance of disapproval, whatever the gift may be.
Does anyone else notice this phenomenon: gift giving that never truly leaves their possession once it's gifted?
