Feeling better with PCOS
I’ve dealt with PCOS for years and for the longest time I ignored every sign my body was giving me because I thought my body was just like that. I was constantly exhausted, bloated, inflamed, craving sugar nonstop, emotionally all over the place and my cycle was completely unpredictable. I normalized all of it because it had been my reality for so long.
There was a point where I barely recognized myself anymore. I felt uncomfortable in my own body almost every day and my energy levels were terrible. I was surviving on junk food, caffeine, stress and barely sleeping properly. I’d stay awake until 2 or 3 in the morning scrolling on my phone or snacking because my body never felt relaxed enough to actually rest.
Eventually I got tired of feeling sick and tired all the time and slowly started changing my habits little by little instead of trying to become healthy overnight. I started making more homemade meals, drinking more water, cutting back on sugar, walking daily, doing mat pilates 3 times a week and yoga another 3 times a week just to get my body moving again. I also started drinking hibiscus and oolong tea almost daily instead of coffee.
Nothing magically changed overnight but after staying consistent for months I started noticing huge differences. My bloating calmed down, my cravings became manageable in away my body would say you're carving that but I don't really need it to survive, my energy became way more stable and for the first time in years my cycle has been regular for almost a full year now.
The craziest thing is my sleep. I used to never feel sleepy naturally and now I’m almost falling asleep around 10:30 or 11 PM without forcing it. That alone feels unreal to me because I used to feel wired and restless constantly. Don't get me wrong I still have PCOS and I still have harder days but I feel healthier, calmer and more connected to my body than I did a few years ago. Looking back now, I didn’t realize how much my habits were affecting me physically and mentally.
