Exterior Softening
Hi,
I really like the idea of turning my home into more of an industrial/cottage style aesthetic.
My home was built in the 60s but on land that was owned by a wealthy family. They made their fortune in coal mining and printing on their estate. Due to post ww2 slum clearances, my area was used as an overspill zone. It is an ex-council house so although well-built, it is not the most attractive.
I know back in the 60s, the gardens were well-maintained and had curb appeal. This is the feel I would like for my own garden.
I really love the cottage garden style and also think my property will be much more charming if the exterior is softened by more plants and other improvements. Do you think it would look out of place? I'm thinking window planters...upstairs and downstairs?
I have also included photos produced by ChatGPT which has altered the windows, etc. but still gives an idea of what it could look like. The first photo is my house now. I hate the grey, I try to avoid grey whenever I can it is lifeless. I think I like the contrast with the greenery but the colour itself is not what I want.
I would love to use beiges and greens to soften the exterior. Side note: can I get my house repointed in a different colour mortar? Is it worth it? Has anyone done this?
What are your opinions on what changes I could make? I have lots of ideas but it's going to take time as I don't have the funds. But if I can have a visualisation of what I want then I can gradually make the changes.
Thanks!!☺️
