[Giveaway] Our first official subreddit giveaway: Win a Huepar S04CG Professional Laser Level.

For a while, mods have been discussing how cool it would be to host a subreddit giveaway. Luckily for all of us, Huepar agree it coincides with their app launch and have hooked us up!

Many of you are familiar with Huepar, and their mission to make tools sustainable and affordable, while continuing to research and innovate.

What many of you may not know is why they exist, or how they started as a company. Most of you already know Huepar's tools, but their background is pretty interesting. It's a 100% woman-owned and women-led company.

The founder, Lisa Li, is an engineer who realized the big legacy brands were basically gatekeeping lasers with massive markups.
After realising she was just a number at her previous workplace, Lisa started Huepar with the goal of bringing down the cost of tools.
There's no corporate owners or managers to answer to, no parent companies or people pulling the strings in the background.

Here is everything you need to know about the prize, the rules, and how to throw your hat in the ring.

The Prize: Huepar S04CG Professional Laser

Huepar is generously supplying one S04CG Professional Laser Level.

For those unfamiliar, this is a heavy-duty, 4D 16-line green beam cross-line laser. It features Bluetooth connectivity (which links directly to the new app so you can control lines remotely from your phone), an LCD display, and comes with a hard carry case. It is a highly capable tool designed for precision layout, tiling, framing, and cabinetry.

Entry is incredibly simple. To enter, just leave a top-level comment on this post. Tell us what project you would use the laser for, share a recent win on the job site, or just say hello. A single comment is all it takes to register your entry.

Rules and Eligibility

To ensure fairness and keep the logistics manageable for our sponsor, please read the following restrictions carefully before entering:

This giveaway is limited to residents of North America, Canada, UK, and EU for logistic purposes.

To prevent bots and contest-sweepers from taking advantage of this, you must have a verifiable history of participating in this subreddit prior to this post.
Brand new accounts or accounts with zero prior activity in this specific community will be disqualified. We want this tool going to someone who actually contributes and participates here.

The giveaway will run for exactly one week from the time this post goes live.

  • One Entry Per Person:

At the end of the one-week period, we will use a randomized comment picker to select the winner from the eligible entries.

  1. Notification: The moderation team will tag the winner in a sticky comment and send a direct message.
  2. Claiming the Prize: The winner will have 48 hours to respond. If we do not hear back, a new winner will be drawn.
  3. Shipping: We will contact the winner to organize shipping, and Huepar will dispatch the S04CG laser directly to your door from their warehouse.

Standard Legal Disclaimers

  • This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Reddit.
  • No purchase necessary to enter or win.
  • By entering, you agree to release Reddit and the subreddit moderation team from any liability related to this giveaway.
  • The mod team is not responsible for shipping delays, items lost or damaged in transit, or any regional customs fees.

A massive thank you to Huepar for sponsoring our first community giveaway and supporting the trades.

Good luck to everyone!

Be aware of copycat accounts. The mods of this subreddit will never ask you for credit card details, payment for shipping, or direct you to an external site to claim your prize. We will only contact you publicly via a stickied comment or through an official modmail/direct message from this exact account.

Question about e-channel and arrival card filing

Kia ora,

I'm travelling to China next week, and was wondering if I need to file an arrival card or if I can just take the e-channel? Nz have 30 day visa free entry and the Chinese echannel guideline on the arrival card says

> I.Foreigners (including foreign border residents) who intend to enter China can fill in their entry information through this system. The following persons are exempt from filling in:

>> 8.Foreigners who enter through the E-channel.

Arriving on an nz passport, we already have e-gates here in nz but the arrival card is for customs (eg food declaration etc).

Just a bit unsure on what eligibility means for the e-channel. Google ai (yeah yeah) claims I'd still need to file an arrival card, but doesn't have any source for that (always always verify sources with Ai)

I haven't yet received hotel info etc yet from the company who has provided the flights/accommodation but they have assured me there will be a driver waiting to pick me up and I'll get those details shortly.

For those of you missing the deflecto calculator from John bridge, we have a solid replacement.

FloorElf, the guy who originally wrote the "deflecto" calculator for the John Bridge forum back in the day, has made his suite of calculators available.

It’s set up as a PWA (Progressive Web App). You don't have to download it from an app store. You just go to the link, and you can either bookmark it in your browser or install it directly to your phone's home screen.

The best part, if you add it to your home screen, the calculator code lives locally on your device. Once you open it the first time, it will work completely offline without cell service or internet access, just like a native app. It works the exact same way on both Apple and Android.

Direct link to the tool:

If you are having trouble figuring out how to save it to your phone, he has an explanation page here - https://floorelf.com/what-is-a-pwa
