If PCVA doesn’t lower my lawyer fees I’m done with them they can take a hike!!

Has anyone else had to fight their law firm to lower their contingency fees? PCVA is pushing back and I’m ready to walk!!
BSA case and the fees feel excessive. I’ve asked them to negotiate and they’re not budging. Has anyone successfully gotten their attorney to lower their cut — or switched firms mid-case? What happened?

PCVA is the slowest to pay!!

Going Pro Se : Throwaway account for obvious reasons.
I’m involved in a settled claim that is being paid through a trust/distribution process. The settlement has already been approved, and I’m currently waiting on my first payment. My attorney’s office has confirmed they have my ACH/direct deposit information and said they will send a letter explaining the payment and clearing timeline.
At this point, I’m seriously considering going pro se after the first payment clears.

The biggest reason is communication. Trying to get a straight answer from my attorney’s office has felt impossible. Basic questions about timing, disbursement, and next steps take forever to get answered, and when I do get a response it feels vague or delayed. I understand attorneys are busy and trust payments may take time, but the lack of clear communication has been extremely frustrating.
My understanding is that the attorney fee/lien portion will still be handled under the fee agreement, and I’m not expecting going pro se to magically erase fees. If there’s a fee dispute, I’ll deal with fee arbitration or the proper process later. Right now, I’m mainly tired of having to chase people for basic updates when the case is already settled.
For anyone who has gone pro se after a settlement was approved:

  1. Did it make future communication easier?
  2. Did future trust/distribution payments go directly to you?
  3. Did it create any problems with attorney liens or fees?
  4. Was there anything you wish you had done before terminating representation?
  5. Not looking for legal advice, just trying to hear from people who have dealt with slow attorney communication after settlement approval.
