Food, Nutrition, and Health

Hi everyone,

I recently received an offer for UBC Food, Nutrition, and Health, and I'm having a hard time deciding whether I should accept it.

My current goal is pre-med but I've heard that maintaining a high GPA at UBC can be challenging. I've also heard mixed things about how competitive the environment is.

Another thing I'm thinking about is the career aspects. I know many people in this program aim for dietetics, but from what I've read, dietetics is extremely competitive. I'm not sure that's a path I want to really rely on.

Beyond becoming a dietitian, what do graduates from this program typically do? Are there strong career options with just the bachelor's degree? If medicine doesn't work out, what kinds of jobs do people usually pursue or do you think grad school is kind of necessary?

I'd really appreciate hearing from current students or graduates about:

  • How difficult it is to maintain a strong GPA
  • Whether the program feels overly competitive
  • What career paths people actually end up pursuing
  • Whether you would choose this program again if given the chance

I like UBC for its reputation but I'm trying to make sure I'm choosing a degree that has good options both for pre-med and as a standalone career.

Thanks in advance!
