The bus has no choice but stuck on the rail track (from Asoke train crash yesterday)
Understand most of you in this sub are foreigners. Apologize my English is not perfect.
Asoke is one of the remaining (and few) level crossing problem after long-distance train service are moved to Krungthep Apiwat (equipped with overpass).
I understand most foreigners (even Thai ) arent aware that this intersection is also a merging point between 2 big road per above picture . Forcing car to merge and fight for lane.
For analogy , its like you stand in line , you should leave space for 10 people and only walk forward when you can clear off this 10-people area. However , that 10-people area will never happen because people will just show up and line in front of you. The area is never empty and you will never move forward entire day unless you walk in and reserve your spot. In this case , random people are all the cars from another big main road กำแพงเพชร7 that ran along the track and end there.
Solution : There are no permanent solution without closing down the road . but there are temporary solution already in used , if the traffic is stuck on the rail. The train watcher will signal the train to slow down , even to full stop . Train are allow to moved slowly in city center so ,even with heavy load , they usually have enough distance.
You will occassionally saw the train stop before the intersection. It is not ideal practice and not the right thing to do , but it is temp solution.
PS. see the reality . Understand photo was few years ago
Bangkok take the most blame ,I think more than the bus driver. Small town unprepared to grow to became 10 million+ megacity .
