Background:
I have extremely dense breasts full of lumps and bumps that I affectionately refer to as coin purses full of pebbles. A super questionable family history (breast, colon, and ovarian cancer) has resulted in being followed quite closely. I don’t have lynch or brca1 /brca2.
Out of the many, there are two masses that my doctors would like to biopsy. Probably fibroadenomas but again, bad genetics. Unfortunately, my body metabolizes local anesthetics faster than Joey Chestnut at a state fair. Traditional core biopsies aren’t an option so my surgeon is planning on doing bilateral palpation guided excisional biopsies.
My surgeon is planning on excising two masses.
One of the masses is so close to the surface that you can easily visualize it moving-2cc mass left breast at 5 o’clock.
The other is a retroareoler mass in the right, also about 2cc.
They are saying that I will need a post op surgical bra. I have very small breasts and don’t normally wear a real bra (if I am, it’s for the padding!) I do not like feeling smushed. The surgical bras I’m seeing online all look like they are for those better endowed. I can’t imagine needing to wear something like that 24/7 for two weeks. What’s the point if I don’t need support?
Additionally, I was told I can’t do any strenuous activity for 2-3 weeks. I’m supposed to be running a half two and a half weeks later. Is it naive to think that I’ll be able to still do that? I’m having a hard time gauging how intense the surgery is going to be.
Lastly, should I be concerned about losing nipple sensation?
Any insight or suggestions are appreciated!
