Back pillow causing indent in my matress, what should I do?

For a good few years ive been using a foam headrest pillow (from a gaming chair) as a back pillow. Whenever I sleep without it I wake with back pain.

The thing is, this pillow put a pretty serious indent in my ratty old matress from childhood. I recently bought a new matress and dont wanna destroy it the same way.

Does anybody have any suggestions for back support or back pillows that will not damage the matress over time?

Back Pillow Causing Mattress Damage, What Should I Do?

For years ive been using a back pillow, and its been slowly carving a hole (creating a permanent indent) into my ratty old matress. I never cared, the thing was from my childhood. I've recently bought a new matress, and I cant bring myself to use my back pillow. I dont wanna destroy my new matress, but my back is having pain that is very abnormal for a 21 year old physically active man.

Do I say fuck it and destroy my new matrrss or sleep on the floor?

PS. The floor is a genuine option for me. If my mother hadnt purchased this matress (if I had to pay for it myself), I likely would have purchased and eastern style floor bed. I've just never slept off of the floor and woke up with a back that feels 100 percent good.
