Choosing between MECH and CPEN

I'm having difficulty choosing between MECH and CPEN because I like the design aspect of MECH, and I'm intrigued by all of the physics you do, but at the same time, I'm thinking of choosing CPEN because I want to go into AI and software. My original plan was to go into Mecha so I could maybe try to do both, but I didn't do early applications, and there are only 16 spots, so I might just have to go into flex or aerospace. What do you guys think I should do?

I just finished first year with an 86.5 avg and want to go into MECH, but I know that if I don't lock in on my personal statement I could still get rejecteda . Does anyone have any extra tips for personal statement and also mind sharing what their avg's were for specializing this year or last year(more recent)?
