2016 SEL NA

Oval one is #3, square one is #5.

I began this project when I discovered a rat came to live in my engine bay and chewed through some of the ignition coil wires. Rat is evicted. I now have mothball filled socks soaked in peppermint oil as a permanent addition, so hopefully they stay away.

There wasn’t any wire left on #5, so I searched for replacement connectors. Everything I found online for this model shows the oval style. I finally found the square one and it cross-references to a F150.

Now that I’m starting to get it put together, I’ve discovered I have 2 different styles. Is this factory or did something get changed along the way? The harness looks like it’s all original and hasn’t been tampered with, unless someone de-pinned an old connector and put this one on without compromising the wiring. I realize these connectors can be delicate and break over time, but I can’t figure out why someone would replace one style with another, nor can I figure out why Ford would use 2 different styles in the same vehicle, but anything is possible, I guess.

I went to start the Flex today and it was running rough. I popped the hood open and found a bunch of leaves and other junk that wasn’t there a couple of days ago. Just as I was blowing that out and hoping there wasn’t something living in the engine bay, a darn rat popped its head up at me. I evicted the darn thing and will have to do something to prevent this in the future, but now I need to find the source of that rough idle. There’s no codes or lights, just the rough idle and I don’t see anything obvious. Any ideas where to start? Thanks!

2016 N.A. btw
