Educate me on floor expansion.

Specifically engineered wood over most common subfloors OSB or plywood.

Both floor planks and subfloor expand at the same rate. if it didb’t the planks closer to the wall would be sheared off.

in fact i still have the expansion gap exposed and the humidity in the last couple of days raised to almost 100%. my windows are always open so indoor humidity got as high (i measured)

i checked the expansion gap. It is exactly the same as it was when i installed the floor at dry conditions. I could not be otherwise the planks are nailed down or glued to the subfloor. When the subfloor expands the whole house expands.
To me it looks like at least for engineered wood over OSB/plywood expansion is a myth. It is perfectly fine to run the planks to the very baseboard.
