Olivia and Meredith are such similar characters

Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey have so much in common.

It’s if the writers looked a lot into each other’s characters!

It's really interesting how both characters are written and how much they have in common.

Both are long term characters for over 20 years and have the best growth in a TV show:

They both grow up from the rookie into the  powerful leader.

Both overcome a lot of trauma and nearly death experiences and they are survivors.

Both have a worthless emotional abusive mother, an absent father, siblings who came later in their lives and who died.

Their Chief / Captain became their father figure.

Both fell in love with their mentor / supervisor, who was married.

They both adopted a child.

With both Olivia and Meredith the actress's  pregnancies were not written in the shows.

They both found a family in their colleagues.

Both are extremely strong women, leaders and survivors.

And last but not least: Taylor Swift her cats are named Meredith and Olivia, after her favorite tv stars.

The big difference is that Meredith is created by a woman: Shonda Rhimes.

Where Olivia is created by Dick Wolf, an old man who has no idea about women in general or about feelings.

Where Meredith can express all her feelings every episode as the voice of the show and holding long monologues about her feelings and everything that happens around her,  is Olivia written very one dimensional without any real depth and without a lot of personal growth.

The relationship between Meredith and Derek is so deep, they came to a point in 3 years where EO did not come in almost 3 decades.

The relationship with her adopted daughter Zola is written so deep, which we never saw in that way between Olivia and Noah.

Meredith is a mother Lion for her 3 children, in a way Olivia was never.

I prefer the depth of Meredith, the way she forces her man to make a choice, the way she fights for her children.

Meredith has great character development and amazing personal growth.  Olivia not that much.

Olivia is socially more awkward and she is obsessed with cuddling victims in a way Meredith never is with her patients.

If Olivia was written and created by a woman then her life would be so much different.

And then I mean a woman like Shonda, not a soulless woman like Michele Fazekas.

Do you think Meredith and Olivia are very similar and would they be best friends if they had ever met?

Also Ellen and Mariska have similarities in personal life.

Both lost their mother at a very early age, which influenced their childhood.

They both have 3 children, the first 1when they were almost 40.

They both have a long stable marriage.

They both got their star on the walk of Fame.

They both have Italian roots.

Both are EPs of the show, Ellen also for other shows. As she is less on screen.

Why could benson not become pregnant?

What was the reason why benson didn’t got pregnant?

She was already in her late 30s. She could have a one night stand with stabler or who ever. It would have made perfectly sense.

I had liked it to see benson pregnant.

And why could Billie not be Carisi s baby?

A one night stand had made way more sense than doctor All who came out of nowhere.

Why did the writers with both came up with such weird stories?

Before the 2026-27 Season – ‘Law & Order’ Franchise in Need of Retooling – Law & Order Diehards

"Now for the issues: did Michele or any of her writers really watch the show past season 7? It’s like the personalities have been sucked out of all our characters and they act as if they don’t have any personal lives outside of work or sometimes even at work. Like Carisi for example: he was a cop in the squad before he was assistant district attorney, he already [should] know how the squad works and vice versa, yet he has regressed to basically be like the rest of the ADAs that come through. On top of that some of his quirky personality and zingers is missing as well. And then when he’s in a scene with Rollins, they act very random, not like two married, yet professional, people. He’s known Benson and the squad a decade, yet he acts as if he doesn’t see them on a recurring basis.

At times this season, it felt like Bruno and Curry were just there. We got WAY more story about newcomer Griffin and Tynan (Noma Dumzweni) than the rest of the squad (minus Benson), I would argue even TOO MUCH of Griffin, for his story not to honestly tie to anything impacting to the series as a whole.

Tutuola (ICE T) being out was definitely an impact to the series as well, Fin is usually the character who is Benson’s right hand in the unit as well as a good friend for her outside of it, yet we used Velasco (Octavio Pisano) to help Benson come to terms with her suspension and her future after Special Victims? Or Griff, who turns on his own from planted snitch to Benson’s advocate without any provocation from Fin (or even Rollins).

The storyline woven just drug out too long and the further along it got it stopped making sense. I thought Tynan was coming in to be the Chief of Detectives who would finally stop Olivia from investigating and stepping personally into rape cases and make her actually be a commanding officer in practice and not just title while simultaneously busting down doors with the ESU team like she’s still a detective.

And of course, there was the unceremonious death of Captain Don Cragen at the top of the season where you brought back familiar faces, only for Benson to push them to the side basically. And then Benson nor the rest of the squad has not mourned Cragen (or John Munch) the rest of the season, what was the point of killing him off? "

I like this evaluation. Its exactly what I said myself more than once but we cannot say it enough.

Yes Michele tried but there are MANY points on S27 who are just too weak.

The whole Tynan Benson arc did not make any sense.

There was no point, no reason, no explanation and it was not exciting.

Carisi, Rollins, Fin, Curry and Bruno got downplayed and side played if they were not even there.

And it was all about a newbie and why would we care about a newbie, when the main characters got ignored?

I really wish that Michele and the writers would watch 2.0, that they know who those characters are!

Is it time for Rollisi to move on?

Its no secret that I am not impressed with Michele Fazekas.

She only gives about Griffin who is like the son she created herself.

While she has no idea what to do with the characters who have that long history in the show.

Rollins and Carisi their story is done.

Michele will not write for them.

From a very strong character MF made from Rollins a kind of flat one dimensional person without her fire which made her one of the strongest characters who was ever in the main cast.

Now she is just there. Running around as a sergeant but without any of her flaws or something what is typical Rollins.

Same for Carisi.

He was always such a loving caretaking man. Now he is a boring workaholic without feelings or family.

Those characters changed so much.

I think it’s time to leave because their characters will not become better.

Both Peter and Kelli are too good for this.

They are not used to their full potential. When that will not change then it’s time to move on.

Also Bruno and Curry are not used to their full potential but at least we don’t know them any different than this.

But Rollins and Carisi always had very strong personalities.

Now they are not a shadow of their old self anymore.

Time for a evaluation

Mariska: This is the best season finale EVER!

Seriously??

This is by far not the best season finale ever!

>!I thought that at least Griffin would die, that had made it a spectacular finale.!<

I am not satisfied with S27.

All those loose ends, who never got explained or used ever again.

Like Cragens dead, why?

The whole Tynan arc, what was the meaning of that?

It was worse than the Maddie arc and I did not think this was possible.

So many characters are wasted, this whole season.

Rollins and Carisi did not get any scene of meaning this season and they act if they dont know each other and doesnt share a life and a family.

Bruno and Curry are wasted and did not get any meaningful story either.

Benson got arrested twice and she was suspended but that had no meaning as she was back the next day.

A totally meaningless story line, without any depth or deeper meaning.

The positive thing is that the squad overall is stable again, but the characters are wasted.

They are all stripped from their strong personalities, which made them the persons they are, they don't have a relationship anymore or children or families.

The squad acts if they just met each other this season and if there is no long life history between the most of them.

Where is Rollins' feisty fire?

Why act Carisi as a boring workaholic without a private life or family, while he was always such a loving caretaking man.

Why don't we know anything more about Bruno than when he came seasons ago?

What is the meaning of Curry who is wasting her time and her leadership qualities for years and who acts if she is the junior detective.

Why is the whole season built around a newbie and his unknown father?

That the whole season is centered around Griffin instead of the women who would run SVU, like Mariska told more than once is ridiculous.

Griffin got more story lines than Benson got in years and then Fin , Carisi and Rollins got in years too.

How ridiculous is that?

The stories were OK but never spectacular.

The lack of personal scenes and their personal characteristics and flaws made this a very weak season.

The strong bond/ connections/ humor/ friendship is what made svu so good, but now they all act if they just met this season and there is no strong bond left.

Michele has no idea about what happened in 2.0 , what the history of those characters is. What their bond and strong connection is.

She has no idea and she doesnt care; She only cares about Griffin and Tynan who she created herself.

The stability in the squad is back, but the chemistry is gone. >!!<

Happy mothersday to Rolivia

The only mommies who got their children in the show.

I miss those family moments so much!

'Just us, just family'

I don't want a cop show only, I want those personal scenes back!

And a squad who know each other, who share a decade long history with each other.

Not a group of people who act if they all just met this season.

Even with David Graziano we got personal scenes but with Michele Fazekas its gone.

Its not only gone, if its it never existed. If Liv, Fin, Amanda and Carisi doesnt share a long bond and history.

Do a better job next season Michele!

Kelli at the ballet gala (2 days ago)

She also told in a short interview at the gala that she loved that Rollins is now in a happy place in her life.

But that she knows that she has has still that fire in her and she hopes we will see that in the future again.

I hope so too!

Its nice that Rollins is happy but she is better with that old spice in her.

I assume this was indirect a little criticism to the writers who made all the characters kind of dull without any real personality this season.

In last night's finale of Greys Anatomy they had the exit episode of 2 characters with an 16 and 17 year old history and they did a good job with that.

I always like to see the flashback scenes over the years when a character leaves a show.

I don't remember those exits and flashbacks in SVU?

Munch got a retired reception which took only 5 minutes because they got a call from a victim and they all left and  I don't remember a compilation with flashbacks the moment he left.

Cragen just got on a cruise and I don't remember a real exit or flashbacks either?

Stabler never got any exit or a flashback compilation.

Alex and Casey just left and did not get an exit either. They were just gone one day.

Amaro and Kat said goodbye after a shooting but no flashback or a proper farewell.

Amanda got no flashbacks either but at least she and Benson had an emotional farewell which was obviously Mariska and Kelli who said goodbye.

I think this was the closest after Munch which looked like an exit scene.

Probably only Dodds got a flashback exit but I dont remember that enough.

Do we think the exits in SVU of long time characters are handled well?

And which exit would you have liked for your favorite characters?

To add to the other post: it’s Dominick.

Which is the American version and the name he has since Carisi came into the show.

Which is also his canon name.

And the name on his buisness card.

Like his father is the first and his son Nicky is Dominick Carisi the third.

Dominick Carisi First 30 | Law & Order: SVU: Season 16, Episode 1 "Girls Disappeared"

Its also the name Wolf entertainment use in his video, so why would it not be his name?

This is the name Warren leight gave him and who Wolf entertainment use as well.

Ok I saw it on X but it’s so sloppy how the writers first don’t know how many years Rollisi is married, than they wanted Rollins to say: “I only wish he would know how the load the dishwasher” while Carisi is the perfect domestic husband and now they don’t know Carisi s full name.

Its Dominick. Thats why his sons nickname is Nicky.

The writers don’t know anything about the history, bond, background and even the names of this decade long characters.

ttps://lawandorder.fandom.com/wiki/Dominick_Carisi,_Jr.

And NO its NOT Dominic, its Dominick!

The American version of the name and not the Italian version of the name, as the family lives in US for decades.

Peter Scanavino - Wikipedia

Peter Muller Scanavino (born February 29, 1980) is an American actor. He stars as detective turned ADA Dominick "Sonny" Carisi Jr. in the long-running NBC crime/legal drama series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Dominick Carisi First 30 | Law & Order: SVU: Season 16, Episode 1 "Girls Disappeared"

If Wolf Entertainment gave him the name Dominick than this is his name.

One fast google round and everyone would have know.

I thought this a interesting tweet. Exactly what annoys me at S27.

Its all about griffin and who cares about him or his father.

In the meantime all main cast characters are downplayed, underused and underdeveloped.

Zero personal scenes in this whole season unless its about griffin.

I hope the writing in S28 will be better.

Holden's Manifesto is one of my favorite episodes.

A big manhunt, the very strong Holden actor and this very interesting scene.

I was wondering if Amanda had the intention to really kiss him?

She wanted to calm him down and to win his trust but would she have kissed him if he did not blow up in her face?

Benson did not show her leadership here.

While Rollins was under his blood she ran away. Instead of talking with her. Comforting her.

Was this because it reminded her of Lewis' death?

I always love how Rollins always gets under the skin of killers and psychos and how she talks with them, uses her tactics.  That is her experience and her Master in forensic psychology!

I don’t remember that his son was even at the wedding?!

I hope that Fin enjoys his family and Phoebe.

Even if we have no idea if they are still alive 🤔
