PR and OWP approval help
We sent our common law PR application in December 2025. Everything has been approved like the biometrics etc.; now the application has been in the background phase since March.
My extended work visa expires in late June. So the immigration consultant submitted the open work permit application today, so I can continue working.
The problem is that she never told us it would take up to 9 months to get the OWP approved and I cannot leave the country until I get PR or the OWP. If I did leave for vacation or to see my family, when I come back, because my PR or OWP isn’t approved yet, I wouldn’t be allowed to return to work.
Me and my girlfriend booked a trip in August (booked this before we even applied for PR). Obviously not knowing that you can’t leave the country once you apply for OWP.
Has anyone been in this situation that can give some advice on their timeline for the OWP?
If we knew this OWP thing doesn’t allow you to leave the country and return working, we would have applied a few months ago..
