Ear Pressure
Has anyone with PPPD, vestibular migraine, TMJ, ETD, or chronic dizziness experienced audible ear clicking/crackling that seems linked to their symptoms?
I've been dealing with chronic dizziness for around 2 and a half years. My main diagnosis at the moment is PPPD, although vestibular migraine has also been suggested. One thing that has always made me question whether something mechanical is involved is persistent ear clicking/crackling.
Some details:
- Clicking/crackling occurs mainly when swallowing and yawning.
- It can occasionally happen spontaneously or while walking.
- It is audible to other people if they're close enough to my ear.
- It started around the same time period as my dizziness.
- When the clicking temporarily stops, I often notice less ear pressure and sometimes a brief improvement in my dizziness.
- I also have tinnitus and intermittent ear pain.
- I grind my teeth at night and have recently been referred to maxillofacial due to TMJ crepitus.
- Neck position and muscle tension seem to influence symptoms.
What I'm struggling to understand is whether the ear clicking is:
A separate issue that happens to coexist with PPPD/dizziness,
A TMJ/neck-related mechanical problem,
A form of Eustachian tube dysfunction,
Or something that other people with PPPD/vestibular migraine have experienced.
I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone whose clicking was audible to others, or anyone who eventually found a cause or treatment that helped.
Thanks.
