Lot...I'm really trying, but I just don't understand.
I'm reading the Bible through, for the first time, and I'm truly enjoying it. Until today's Bible Study of Genesis Chapter 19.
Can I, please, get some Theological insight into Lot? There's so many fascinating people in the Bible, with fascinating stories to tell. So, why include Lot? And why was he considered righteous?
* He showed himself to be selfish.
* He moved OUTSIDE of Sodom, after the split with Abraham's, but by Chapter 19, he was living IN Sodom and he knew the people were wicked.
* He offered up his daughters.
* The Angels told him to leave everything & get out of Sodom QUICKLY and yet somehow he's able to take wine? I'm assuming he took wine since his daughters got him drunk and slept with him.
* Through the incest he's then the grandfather of the Moabite and the Ammonite tribes, but those people no longer exist, so why even mention the incest and what became of that offspring?
I've just been irritated by Lot's story all day and can't figure out why he was included in the Bible. And the "to show that going against God's Word never turns out well" explanation just can't be the only reason, since we're shown many people, in the Bible, that we can learn that lesson from. Is it less about Lot's story and more about how benevolent and gracious Abraham is to Lot?
Thank you, in advance, for any insight. I really want to learn everything I can ❤
