Possible slow bathroom drain leak in the wall or something ... repair steps?
I have a nagging suspicion that the drain line for my sink is compromised. The drywall right under the drain pipe is soft as if it's been wet or soaking.
I kinda want to try the repair myself to get more confidence in fixing things around the house. I think my steps are:
- Shut off water and remove sink
- Cut out a section of the wall, probably around the drain pipe area.
- Assess? Cut out damage section and cap drain end off with a rag.
- Take section to store, probably get a new T-joint(?) and/or other PVC pipe to replace the damaged section of drain pipe?
I don't know how long it's been leaking for. What else do I need to look out for? What tools and supplies do I need? I have a hacksaw and a drywall saw as well as a pipe cutter.
