Hey all, I'm a relatively new freelance journalist from Indianapolis, Indiana. I recently sold my first piece to a local arts and culture magazine, Indianapolis Monthly. It was a 500 word spotlight on a local band that involved conducting an interview and gathering resources from the band. Not too intensive of work. Upon turning it in my editor asked for an invoice. This is my first time selling a piece like this. Up to this point its all been set price articles for small music magazines. I have absolutely no idea what to ask for. What is the going rate for something like this?
