UK to CA on a work visa - possible immigration.
Me (36) and my husband (41) are looking at moving to Canada in the next couple of years.
He’s a skilled joiner, mainly roofing, with 10 years experience so we’d be looking at getting a work sponsor (hopefully). A couple of places we found online state that 35 is their preferred max age for a sponsored work visa which we’re hoping won’t go against us finding him a job?
I work in retail management, nothing to write home about but I would get a job once over there to support us too. We own our NE home in the UK which we’d rent out for a couple of years which would boost our income a little too.
We are looking at **Calgary** Alberta (Cochrane has been suggested for us), Courtenay/Comox and Campbell River on **Vancouver Island** in BC although we’ve been told it’s more expensive as well as **Halifax surrounding areas** in Nova Scotia although I’ve not looked into this place.
We love the outdoors, hiking with our dog, we aren’t big socially and not bothered about the local night scene. Generally just after a slower way of life once we clock out. Can we find that here?
We love the look on Nelson BC but don’t know if this would be too hard to find work? Canmore looks stunning but we’ve read that it’s probably WELL out of our budget 😅
Our questions really, are:
•**would my husbands age put potential work sponsors off?** and am I able to work once we arrive or do I need to apply for a separate work visa once he has a sponsor?
•**are the areas I have mentioned safe, accessible to nature with a short drive and somewhat affordable accommodation?**
•**realistically, what do we need to prepare ourselves for if we look at immigration? What have any expats found to be big pros or cons compared to the UK?**
Lastly, thank you in advance! Any help, whether positive or not is appreciated.
