Completely reworking old bonegrinder
Hello!
I'm getting ready to start my CoS campaign, and I'm looking ahead to Old bonegrinder, since Morgantha typically shows up shortly after the death house. My players have already said "absolutely no" to any form of harm to children, and any form of cannibalism.
I'm also not the biggest fan of hags in general, and I find Baba Lysaga fits the role of the hag fairly well on her own. (don't hate me!)
I had the idea to completely rework old bonegrinder into a makeshift opium den, owned by three succubi/incubi (still coming up with their characters). The dream pastries that they peddle through town function pretty much the same as written in the book, but I figured the characters would encounter a lush sitting room on the ground floor, with a couple barovians passed out or in a trance, the second floor would be the pastry manufacturing floor, the third floor would be something horrific.
I'm still unsure of what would be in the pastries to make it truly horrifying on the same level as childrens bones. I used google's AI overview to brainstorm, and it came up with a few fairly boring answers. The only actually interesting one it came up with (in my opinion) was "they are preparing villagers blood for Strahd, like personal blood sommeliers, whom they then send to Strahd as some sort of fine vintage".
I'm a fairly new DM, and while I have all these creative juices running rampant in my brain, I'm struggling to make this mechanically feasible.
Any thoughts or ideas would be incredibly helpful!! Thanks a bunch
