Goods ordered from UK warehouse but shipped from China
I'm in England and have ordered an electrical product with a value of ~£200 from a dot CO dot UK website. At checkout, I was offered a number of fulfillment options including UK warehouse and Hong Kong warehouse. I selected the UK warehouse option.
Tracking information has been provided and the package is coming from China. I am concerned that I will be charged tax/import duty by the courier after delivery. (edit: the seller states that the UK warehouse is out of stock, hence the fulfillment from China.)
The seller assures me that no tax/duty will need to be paid but I'm not sure I believe them. I have asked them to commit in writing to cover anything I have to pay but they have not responded.
What are my options? Refuse the package and issue a chargeback? Accept the package and issue a partial chargeback for any duty/tax I am asked to pay? Accept the package and refuse to pay any duty/tax to th courier on the basis that I ordered from a UK website and a UK warehouse?
