24 Councillors elected to Holyrood

Note that last election, only 1 new MSP decided to resign their council seat before the next local elections in a years time. But I found it interesting to put together anyway.

Dawn Black (SNP) - Angus North and Mearns. Councillor for Stonehaven and Lower Deeside ward in Aberdeenshire which is partially within her constituency.

Lloyd Melville (SNP) - Angus South. Councillor for Monifieth and Sidlaw ward in Angus which is entirely within his constituency.

Pauline Stafford (SNP) - Bathgate. Councillor for Bathgate ward in West Lothian which is entirely within her constituency.

Katie Hagmann (SNP) - Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley. Councillor for Mid Galloway and Wigtown West ward in Dumfries and Galloway which is entirely within the Galloway and West Dumfries constituency that was held by the Tories.

David Barratt (SNP) - Cowdenbeath. Councillor for Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay ward in Fife which is entirely within his constituency.

Heather Anderson (SNP) - Dundee City West. Councillor for Coldside ward in Dundee which is partially within her constituency.

Kate Campbell (SNP) - Edinburgh Eastern, Musselburgh and Tranent. Councillor for Portobello/Craigmillar ward in Edinburgh which is entirely within her constituency.

Sanne Dijkstra-Downie (LD) - Edinburgh Northern. Councillor for Forth ward in Edinburgh which is entirely within her constituency.

Simita Kumar (SNP) - Edinburgh South Western. Councillor for Southside/Newington ward in Edinburgh which is split between the Edinburgh Central (gained by Greens) and Edinburgh Southern (held by Labour) constituencies.

Gary Bouse (SNP) - Falkirk West. Councillor for Carse, Kinnaird and Tryst ward in Falkirk which is partially within his constituency.

Colm Merrick (SNP) - Glasgow Anniesland. Councillor for Giffnock and Thornliebank ward in East Renfrewshire which is entirely within the Eastwood constituency that was gained by the SNP's former MP Kirsten Oswald.

Zen Ghani (SNP) - Glasgow Cathcart and Pollok. Councillor for Pollokshields ward in Glasgow which is entirely within the Glasgow Southside constituency that was gained by the Greens.

Holly Bruce (GRN) - Glasgow Southside. Councillor for Langside ward in Glasgow which is entirely within her constituency.

Alex Kerr (SNP) - Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse. Councillor for Baillieston ward in Glasgow which is entirely within the Glasgow Baillieston and Shettleston constituency held by SNP former MP David Linden.

Michelle Campbell (SNP) - Renfrewshire North and Cardonald. Councillor for Erskine and Inchinnan ward in Renfrewshire which is entirely within her constituency.

Andrew Baxter (LD) - Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch. Councillor for Fort William and Ardnamurchan ward in Highland which is entirely within his constituency.

Now onto regional MSPs, all of whom represent wards within their large areas.

Kayleigh Kinross O'Neill (GRN) - Edinburgh and Lothians East. Councillor for Forth ward in Edinburgh. With the LD councillor for the ward winning Edinburgh Northern, this is the only ward in Scotland to have two councillors elected as MSPs.

Thomas Kerr (RFM) - Glasgow. Councillor for Shettleston ward in Glasgow who was originally elected for the Conservatives.

Kristopher Leask (GRN) - Highlands and Islands. Councillor for Kirkwall West and Orphir ward in Orkney.

Morven-May MacCallum (LD) - Highlands and Islands. Councillor for Black Isle ward in Highland.

Julie MacDougall (RFM) - Mid Scotland and Fife. Councillor for Burntisland, Kinghorn and Western Kirkcaldy ward in Fife who was originally elected for Labour.

Yi-pei Chou Turvey (LD) - North East Scotland. Councillor for Banchory and Mid Deeside ward in Aberdeenshire.

Duncan Massey (RFM) - North East Scotland. Councillor for Lower Deeside ward in Aberdeen who was originally elected for the Conservatives.

Joe Fagan (LAB) - South Scotland. Councillor for East Kilbride Central North ward in South Lanarkshire.

19 Council by-elections automatically triggered as a result of Senedd elections

This is due to a newer law that Welsh politicians can't have multiple jobs in Westminster/Senedd/Council. All of these councillors unless noted were elected in 2022 and were up for re-election in 2027.

Acton and Maesydre, Wrexham: Becca Martin (PC) elected as MS for Clwyd

Baruc, Vale of Glamorgan: Mark Hooper (PC) elected as MS for Pen-y-bont Bro Morganwwg

Dowlais & Pant, Merthyr Tydfil: David Hughes (RFM) elected as MS for Pontypridd Cynon Merthyr. Hughes was originally elected as an Independent councillor.

Glantwymyn, Powys: Elwyn Vaughan (PC) elected as MS for Gwynedd Maldwyn

Gogarth Mostyn, Conwy: Louise Emery (RFM) elected as MS for Clwyd. Emery was originally elected as a Conservative councillor.

Grosvenor, Wrexham: Marc Jones (PC) elected as MS for Fflint Wrecsam

Hengoed, Caerphilly: Donna Cushing (PC) elected as MS for Sir Fynwy Torfaen

Llangannech, Carmarthenshire: Carmelo Colasanto (RFM) elected as MS for Sir Gaerfyrddin. Colasanto was originally elected in a 2025 by-election.

Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch, Denbighshire: Elfed Williams (PC) elected as MS for Bangor Conwy Môn

Llanrug, Gwynedd: Beca Brown (PC) elected as MS for Gwynedd Maldwyn

Llantarnam, Torfaen: Jason O'Connell (RFM) elected as MS for Pontypridd Cynon Merthyr. O'Connell was originally elected as an Independent councillor in a 2023 by-election.

Llanyre with Nantmel, Powys: Claire Johnson-Wood (RFM) elected as MS for Gwynedd Maldwyn. Johnson-Wood was originally elected as an Independent councillor.

Mumbles, Swansea: Francesca O'Brien (RFM) elected as MS for Gŵyr Abertawe. O'Brien was originally elected as a Conservative councillor.

Queensway, Wrexham: Carrie Harper (PC) elected as MS for Fflint Wrecsam

Splott, Cardiff: Huw Thomas (LAB) elected as MS for Caerdydd Penarth

Trebanos, Neath Port Talbot: Rebeca Phillips (PC) elected as MS for Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd

Treorchy, Rhondda Cynon Taf: Sera Evans (PC) elected as MS for Afan Ogwr Rhondda

Tudno, Conwy: Thomas Montgomery (RFM) elected as MS for Clwyd. Montgomery was originally elected as a Conservative councillor.
