3 questions on hiring if someone has time (0132 series)

3 questions on hiring if someone has time (0132 series)

Good morning

39 applications in so far across the 0132 series, and I'm about 4 weeks since my first application. 1 referral so far, and nothing yet from that one.

  1. SF-50: I've not held a federal civilian position, but am retired Navy. My research is telling me its not applicable to me. Is that correct?

  2. The positions I'm shooting for are 13 and 14 pay band with a smattering of 15 paybands. This is my first time taking a shot at senior level positions. Any advice or pointers on what to ensure I include in a cover letter or resume to ensure I make it through the HR gates (while being truthful) and knock the socks off the Hiring Manager?

(I have significant community experience and am pretty well versed and ensure I'm putting that in my content, but after reading some of the reddit here ... federal hiring seems very arbitrary if thats the right word to use.)

  1. The opm.gov, FAQ's "Why I haven't heard anything back after applying? How long does it take to hear back from an agency after I applied?" Says, if we haven't heard anything within about 30 days we can email the HR listed on the job posting.

- Will that hurt me to reach out to them and make a general inquiry?

- Any advice on what to ask verses what not to ask? General inquiry or put anything specific in the email traffic?

Thanks a lot for your time. Aggressively attacking knowledge gaps in this process.

Have an awesome day out there in internet land ... a cup of coffee on me!
