Hi all! I’m Ayin, a transqueer, nonbinary artist from Los Angeles. I'm trying to promote my solo show in Santa Monica coming up next month. It's called Relative Strangers*,* and it opens Saturday, May 16, 5–7 PM at Craig Krull Gallery, Santa Monica (Bergamot Station).
These paintings come from real vintage family photos and my experience growing up in a family that didn’t see or understand me. The work is darkly funny, raw, and personal, exploring trans youth, visibility, and the strange humor of being misunderstood. Four years went into this series, and it’s finally ready to share, so I'm excited to mention it here.
A discussion panel, Queering the Family Album, will take place Saturday, June 6, at 11 AM. Coffee and donuts will be provided, so please RSVP to the gallery. ((310) 828-6410 or info@craigkrullgallery.com.)
If you’d like to support the project, here’s our Kickstarter campaign (any help is greatly appreciated!):

It would mean so much to share this work with people who care about queer visibility in art.
I am also donating 20% of my proceeds from the show to the Laurel Foundation, an amazing organization that creates programs for trans youth, families with HIV/AIDS, and other at-risk youth.
