Alienware m18 R1 “Golden Profile” Undervolt – RTX 4080 Runs Cooler While Scoring Higher Than Stock

Hey everyone, I wanted to share what I consider my most efficient “Golden Profile” undervolt setup for my 3-year-old Alienware m18 R1 (Ryzen 9 7845HX / RTX 4080 / 32GB RAM).

Like many owners, I struggled with the aggressive stock thermals of this machine. After extensive testing and tuning, I finally achieved a stable undervolt profile that significantly reduced temperatures without sacrificing performance.

What surprised me most is that performance actually improved versus stock settings. Because the CPU and GPU now run cooler and avoid thermal throttling, the system is able to sustain higher boost clocks more consistently during gaming and benchmarks.

The overall experience is now noticeably smoother, quieter, and cooler to the touch, while also potentially improving long-term hardware longevity.

Setup

  • Laptop: Alienware m18 R1 (3 years old)
  • Cooling: Cooling pad with rear incline/raised back
  • Thermal Material: Stock Element 31
  • Software Used: UXTU + MSI Afterburner

Benchmark Results

(Unigine Heaven 4.0 – 1440p Ultra / Extreme)

  • Score: 2995–3000
  • Average FPS: 118.9–120 FPS
  • Max CPU Temp:
    • 80.5°C (with AC)
    • 81.9°C (without AC)
  • Max GPU Temp:
    • 81.5°C (with AC)
    • 83.3°C (without AC)
  • Max CPU Clock: 4839.8 MHz

Note:
I’m using an external 1440p 144Hz monitor instead of the built-in 1920x1200 480Hz display. The external monitor is significantly more demanding on the GPU due to the higher rendering resolution, making these temperatures and benchmark results even more impressive.

“AC” refers to air conditioning used to maintain lower ambient room temperature.
