I’m in North Carolina and a civil judgment was entered against me. The judgment holder has now obtained a writ of execution to enforce collection. I have already filed the Notice of Right to Have Exemptions Designated within the required timeframe. I am willing to pay back the judgment, but I do not have enough to pay it all at once, so I am making voluntary partial monthly payments. This person wants to rush the payment so that's why they are doing this way.

I am trying to understand what typically happens next in this process. Specifically, I want to know whether enforcement actions (such as seizure of property or bank account funds) can still proceed while I am making payments, how the writ of execution is usually carried out in North Carolina, and what level of protection exemptions provide if they are not challenged. I am also wondering whether it is possible to work out a payment arrangement that could pause or limit enforcement.

I am not able to hire an attorney at this time, so I am looking for general guidance on how this process works and what I should expect going forward, and how to protect myself.
