Considering Amanpulo while we're in SE Asia later this year. For those who've been, I'd love to get your thoughts, especially if you've been recently.
How are the bugs there? I've read some reviews about aggressive sandflies, and while it's not a dealbreaker, I want to mentally prepare myself.
What's the weather mid-November like, really? I've read the Amihan winds start up in November and can make being on the beach uncomfortable. Is that true or more of an exaggeration? I also think the rainy season has essentially ended by this point as well?
How would you rate your diving experience at Amanpulo? We want to dive for at least a few days. I know it's not going to be Indo-quality or even as good as other parts of the Philippines but how were the operators and what kind of stuff did you see?
Reviews suggest beach casitas category and above or bust. If we're more focused on water activities and being out and about as opposed to just lounging at our room, do you think it really matters? We aren't opposed to paying for them but it's also at least 50% more expensive than the hillside rooms which we're considering. I've also read most of the rooms are dated anyway, so it seems the primary value is beach access. That said, I've read the beach casitas are on the protected side of the island, so the winds aren't as strong. Love to hear your thoughts if you've stayed in a non-beach casita.
We're thinking of stay of 5 nights in between two cities. Does that sound like "enough" time?
As an aside, if anyone has recommendations other than Amanpulo in SE Asia that has good weather (not "transitional") in mid-November, ideally beautiful beaches, and hopefully some good diving, I'd love to hear them! Wakatobi is sold out on our dates, not interested in Bali or Phuket, other parts of Philippines seem to have iffy weather until December. Thanks!
