The true crime community
I would like to talk about the True crime community or tcc.
I fell down a rabbit hole a couple of days ago when researching the Columbine massacre.
To explain it, Tcc was originally a community for people interested in True crime. They used to discuss cases, trying to figure out cold cases ect.
Now, This is where it gets disturbing. Tcc from what I’ve found is nowadays kids who romanticizes or even glorifies school shooters.
It started by me seeing an edit of one of the boys who committed the shooting in columbine. I looked through the account and what I found was disturbing to say the least. This was a person who obviously is very mentally ill and the videos was telling me that this kid either wanted to commit suicide or a school shooting.
There’s so many accounts like this.
Now why I want to write about this is because parents need to check on their children because they need help. This post is not to shame them, I want to help them.
I’m also doing this because school shootings have become way too common around the world. Nobody should have to be afraid to go to school. And no parent should have to be afraid to send their kids to school.
Now, How do you recognize these accounts?
Well, these people are smart. I’m gonna make a little list.
- They very often uses this emoji in the name “🪖”
- They call the shooters “Actors” to be able to keep the video on the plattform and confuse people who don’t recognize the shooters.
- They give subtle hints about suicidal or homicidal thoughts. This can be videos or comments in the comment section
- They make edits of the shooters and heavily implies that they want to be like them
To you who has a child with access to social media:
- If you’re worried that something is bothering your child, check their social media. And be careful! You can have more than 1 account. They can trick you and only show you their normal account.
- They can lie and tell you that they are actors. Google their names.
- If you do find out that your child has an account like this or follow accounts like this. Don’t be angry at your child. It’s very likely that your child is in a very bad place and needs help. Getting yelled at or shamed will only make it worse.
- It’s not only Tiktok. Check reddit, Tumblr, instagram. Everything. And remember the part with multiple accounts.
- If you own a weapon, do not under any circumstance let your child have access to it. No matter what. Make sure it’s locked away in a place where they can’t find it.
- If you notice strange behavior from your child, Keep them away from school.
- If you feel like you can’t reach your child, seek help. This is not something that should be ignored.
To anyone who is a student or teacher:
If you see someone from school following these accounts or owning one. Take screenshots of everything concerning. It could be anything that could imply suicidal or homicidal thoughts. Report it to the school principal, show it to your parent or guardian. If it heavily implies an attack is being planned, report it to the police. Make sure that they understand your concern. The police or principal has a habit of not understanding the gravity of these accounts because they think it’s a teenager thing on social media. Explain how this works. Do everything you can.
Stay home from school if you feel unsafe. Your life is much more important than grades or missing school work.
Don’t talk to this person if they have the account. They can easily feel attacked and block you to avoid getting caught. If you want to help these people, Report them. When they still haven’t committed a crime, They won’t be facing legal consequences most of the times. They will get help.
To summarize this.
Don’t think “It’s nothing”
As I said, school shootings have sadly become a common occurrence all over the world but mostly America.
These people with these accounts aren’t slightly depressed kids. They are heavily mentally ill and need urgent help.
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone in the Tcc sees this and defends it. They do because they want to protect their community. I’m not saying that everyone who is a part of Tcc is a school shooter. I’m just saying that everyone should be careful.
