16 Nights in Japan. Permanent Home Base? Move Around?
My fiancée and I are going to Japan on our honeymoon and will be there from March 27, 2027 to April 12, 2027 (16 nights). Our tentative plan is to have a base in Tokyo the entire time we're there, and go on one or two overnight/multiple night trips to other cities/regions. I'd like to keep the Tokyo hotel under ~$500/night, but our flights were booked fully with points so we can push that budget a bit higher if we find it's worth it. I have a fully refundable reservation at Hyatt House Shibuya for $417/night for those dates as a back up, but wanted to ask for advice for our particular trip. I've read so many threads about what areas to stay in, which hotels are great, and whether you should stay in one Tokyo hotel or try out a few different ones.
The reason we'd like to stay in one Tokyo hotel is so that regardless of whether we're exploring Tokyo or off for a few days in another city, we have one place we're fairly settled into and where we can leave the bulk of our stuff. But if staying in one Tokyo hotel for the whole trip is inadvisable to some of you, I'd love to hear input. We'll be staying at more luxurious places during our trips to other cities/regions, so the Tokyo hotel would just need to be a good size, in a good area, and clean.
Regarding where to stay, I've heard pros and cons for so many areas. Obviously our booking in Shibuya would put us right in the heart of the action, but is that advisable for 16 nights or would we be better of in a slightly quieter/more chill area? If you think Shibuya/Shinjuku is not the play, then our priorities for location would be basic: easily accessible to much of the city by transit, pleasant walking experience nearby, and a good restaurant scene nearby.
Sorry for the ramble. To summarize, basically just looking for advice re having the same Tokyo hotel for all 16 nights and re areas you'd recommend if we're going to have just one hotel the whole time.
Thanks for any guidance or input!
