Looking for insights - early in design stage
I am looking at a new build rectangular pool with a sun shelf / Baja shelf. I have 3 kids under 10, but they are all enthusiastic about swimming. Some questions for those that have done this and lived with their pool:
1 - deep end being 5 feet vs 6 feet? I feel like 6 feet ends up being a dead zone when used for socializing / backyard events because most cannot comfortably stand. But then most pools I’ve been in go to 6 feet so wasn’t sure if that was just precedent or with good reason. If you were to build new, what depth would you go to?
2 - sun shelf depth and length? I hear the 3 standards are either 6 inches, 12 inches, or 18 inches. My instinct is 6 inches is too shallow, but having hard time assessing between 12 inches and 18 inches. I’d think 18 might be good if the shelf is also used as a shallow play area for kids under 5. As for length, to put a lounger or two, do you need 6, 7, or 8 feet to fit comfortably?
3 - what other design considerations would you recommend?
