I'm an undergrad at a small university in the US. I saw a seat mate of mine using AI to write a paper and cheat in a way designed to avoid any proof of AI usage. I'm not really sure why but I felt some sort of vague need to tattle so I reported it to my Universities Honor Board without really thinking about or talking to anyone except a very quick conversation with the professor. I almost immediately had second thoughts. I didn't realize that I'm listed as a reporter, that I'm supposed to testify at the hearing, that the student would know who I am, or anything like that. Also, I am sure that this student is not the first or the last to cheat in this way. To be honest I don't think I expected to be taken seriously. Now I'm having second thoughts but it's too late to withdraw the complaint. I guess what I'm wondering is first was reporting this student the right thing to do, and do you all know about similar cases at your universities and how they turn out?
